New Delhi, Apr.11 (ANI): B Muthuraman, Vice Chairman, Tata Steel Limited and Chairman, Tata International Ltd, was elected president of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for the year 2011-12. He succeeds Hari Bhartia.
A B.Tech in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT Madras, he also holds an MBA degree from XLRI Jamshedpur, and underwent an Advanced Management Programme from (CeDEP/INSEAD).
Muthuraman joined Tata Steel in 1966 and has held various positions at the company. He is on the boards of several companies which include, Bosch Limited, Tata Industries and Strategic Energy Technology Systems Pvt. Ltd. He is also the chairman of the Board of Governors of XLRI, Jamshedpur, and National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur.
Muthuraman is a member of the Business Advisory Council of Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).
He is a recipient of several prestigious awards like the Distinguished Alumnus Award, IIT Madras (1997),Tata Gold Medal, Indian Institute of Metals (2002), CEO of the Year Award, IIMM (2002), National HRD Network Pathfinders Award 2004 in the CEO Category, CEO of the year, 2005, 2009 IIM-J R D Tata Award for 'Excellence in Corporate Leadership, in Metallurgical Industries' from The Indian Institute of Metals, Economic Times Award for Corporate Excellence in 2008 , besides many others.
He is an avid reader and a keen cricket and golf enthusiast.
Adi Godrej, Chairman of the Godrej Group, was elected as president designate of CII for the year 2011-12.
Godrej is an undergraduate and has Master's in management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He is also Chairman of Godrej Industries Ltd., Godrej Consumer Products Ltd., Godrej Household Products Ltd., Godrej Properties Ltd., Godrej Hershey Ltd., Keyline Brands Ltd, U.K, Rapidol Pty Ltd., South Africa. The Godrej Group is one of India's largest conglomerates. He is also a director of numerous firms.
Godrej is a recipient of several awards and recognitions including the Rajiv Gandhi Award 2002 and the Entrepreneur of the Year for the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards 2010; Best Businessman of the Year for the GQ Men of the Year Awards 2010; Chemexcil's Life Time Achievement Award 2010; AIMA - J.R.D. Tata Corporate Leadership Award 2010;
Only this week, Adi Godrej has assumed the Office of Chairman of Indian School of Business.
S Gopalakrishnan, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Infosys Technologies has been elected as the Vice President of CII for the year 2011-2012.
Mr Gopalakrishnan is one of the founders of Infosys Technologies Limited. As the Chief Executive Officer, he defines the road map for technology and innovation. In 1981, he, alongwith N.R. Narayana Murthy and five others, founded Infosys Technologies Limited. On June 22, 2007, Gopalakrishnan was appointed the CEO and Managing Director of Infosys.
He holds a Master's Degrees in Physics (1977) and Computer Science (1979) from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
Gopalakrishnan is recognized as a global thought leader. He was selected in Thinkers 50, an elite list of global business thinkers compiled by Des Dearlove and Stuart Crainer, in association with the IE Business School, Madrid, and the London Business School's Management Innovation Lab.
In January 2011, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the country's third highest civilian honour, by the Government of India.
This is the first time that Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has three officer bearers at the helm of affairs, as per changes in the Rules of the Organisation. (ANI)
