Moyon volleys DSA title into Osian ND Heroes net
Striker Gyan Moyon late bust sunk the hopes of walled city famous Digi-Max Indian National FC as Osian ND Heroes prevailed over their spirited opponents by a solitary goal in a keenly contested final, to lift the title of SAIL-ONGC Delhi Soccer Association (DSA) Senior Division championship, played at the Ambedkar stadium here on Monday.
The newly proficiently revamped Osian ND Heroes team (ONDH), after its reins came in the hands of Osian’s, the art connoisseur company and managed by Infinity Optimal Solutions (IOS) prior to the start of the season, regained the title nearly after a prolonged gap of five decades.
The all-important goal of the match came in the 83rd minute of the game through Gyan Moyon of ONDH. The 62nd minute substitution Amitya Ganguly, replacing Malswama in the half-line, did the trick for the champions as he sent a precise cross from the right flank, after trapping a long ball from far end, finding Moyon on the top of the penalty spot who unleashed perfect stunning volley that landed in the left corner of the goalpost after beating the rival custodian all ends up.
The proverb 'All well that ends well' is perfectly apposite in the case of ND Heroes team as Nationals dominated the proceedings of the entire game and provided some stiff resistance to their opponents, but to Nationals dismay, Heroes scored when it mattered most subsequently sealing the fate of their opponents.
The match started on a sedate note but soon turned into livewire with both the teams charging down in either side's citadel in quest of a goal. Nationals came close to score on numerous occasions but their strikers failed to capitalise the opportunities that came their way, especially their forward Praveen Khattri squandered as many as three clear-cut goal scoring chances by messing up in the end.
The Cheema's wards who stayed unbeaten in the just concluded championship disappointed sizeable crowd in the chilly afternoon, after exhibiting some none too impressive show in the decider, while they were also missing the services of their four regular players Bhuvan Joshi, Prashant Jaggi (Red-carded in the semis), Krispin Chetri (serving two yellow cards) and Moni Tombi, who was injured.
The run of the mill performance in the finals and some shoddy display from their two main players who were red-carded in the crucial stage of the championship haven't given the impression of a fully professional outfit yet as claimed. Their lack of bench strength might come as a hindrance to their 2nd division I-League prospect.
“The team worked hard for the day. The boys have put in all their efforts and proved the team again. I have been honoured to coach this bunch of talented youngsters in the form of Osian’s New Delhi Heroes," said winning team's and recipient of best coach award Cheema.
However, ONDH famed Coach Cheema Okerie also said, “We are planning to work even harder for the I League II Division”.
The winners pocketed Rs. One Lakh while the runners-up had to content with the sum of fifty thousand.
