260mn pounds NASA rocket crashes into sea

London , Sun, 06 Mar 2011 ANI

London, Mar 6 (ANI): A NASA rocket carrying satellite worth 260 million pounds plummeted into the sea after a failed launch attempt.

"All indications are they're both in the South Pacific Ocean somewhere," the Sun quoted a spokesman as saying.

A protective covering on the unmanned Taurus XL rocket - built by Orbital Sciences Corp - failed to separate three minutes after the launch at Vandenberg Air Force base in California.

That meant it was too heavy to get into orbit.

The Glory satellite should have spent three years analysing how the Sun and airborne particles affect the Earth's climate. (ANI)
