New Delhi, Mar 4(ANI): Union Minister of State for Steel (Independent Charge) Beni Prasad Verma has condoled the death of veteran leader and former Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh, who passed away here today.
In his condolence message to Singh's wife, Saroj Devi, Verma: "I am really shocked to learn the sad demise of veteran leader Arjun Singh today. His death has created a vacuum in Indian politics, whose contribution in the service of the Congress Party and the nation-building is unforgettable."
"I convey my heartfelt condolences and pray to god that the departed soul may rest in eternal peace and almighty gives the bereaved family enough strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss," he added.
Singh, who was admitted at New Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), died of cardiac arrest. He was 81.
He was today dropped from the Congress Working Committee (CWC), and was made a Permanent Invitee.
He leaves wife Saroj Devi, two sons- Ajay Singh and Abhimanyu - and daughter Veena.
Singh was the Union Human Resource Development Minister from 2004 to 2009, and was the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister when the Bhopal gas tragedy occurred in December 1984. (ANI)
