Buddhadeb writes to Chidambaram on Trinamool-Maoist nexus

New Delhi, Thu, 03 Feb 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Feb 3 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today wrote to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on the nexus between the Trinamool Congress and the Maoists.

In his letter, Bhattacharjee cited the arrest of two persons from a Trinamool Congress-run camp in Midnapore who allegedly had Maoist link.

Bhattacharjee had earlier said that the inmates of the municipality-run camp had obstructed the police on January 31 during the arrest of the two who had been given shelter there.

Bhattacharjee had warned Trinamool Congress at a public meeting on Tuesday that action would be taken on the basis of evidences of the opposition party's link with the ultras.

"The state government will no longer wait. We will take action immediately on the basis of evidences of Trinamool's link with the Maoists which are tumbling out one after the other," he said

Meanwhile, Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has said that she too would inform the Centre about the incident.

On the arrest of the alleged Maoists, she said the entire incident was the handiwork of pro-CPM police forces.

She also dubbed Bhattacharjee as the "father of Maoists" and criticised him for threatening her party on alleged nexus with Maoist.

"He (Bhattacharjee) is the father of the Maoists. He is killing people only to stay in power. Why did they not ban Maoists earlier when they were banned in other states? They have used the Maoists to capture Keshpur (in West Midnapore)," Banerjee told media persons.

"They are only telling lies. Whenever there is a voice of protest against them they will say he or she is a Maoist. They should remember that in democracy common people speak the last word," she said. (ANI)
