New Delhi, Jan 7 (IANS) A man was arrested here for robbing a woman co-passenger during a flight from Amritsar to here, police said on Saturday.

Police said the accused identified as Rajesh Kapoor, 34, was arrested on Friday night after police raided his residence in Paharganj area of central Delhi.

According to police, the incident took place on Thursday when Komal Sood, a resident of Gurugram, filed a complaint that three different credit cards kept in her cabin luggage had been stolen during her journey on Air India Flight AI462.

She also said that later she received a message about shopping worth US $2,016 on her credit cards, a senior officer said.

"During investigating the case, we found that the accused shopped from a Duty Free shop at the departure wing, purchasing 16 bottles of 'Chanel' Perfume'," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Bhatia said.

The identity of Kapoor was ascertained after police studied the details of passengers. He had been earlier been arrested by police in connection with a robbery case, Bhatia said.

"Raids were conducted at Kapoors' house but it was found that he had changed his address. He was later arrested after police raided his new residence at Paharganj with the help of local sources," he added.

During interrogation, Kapoor told police that he had stolen earlier a Canadian $5,800 from the baggage of a co-passenger at IGI Airport. He had recently lost a lot of money in betting and was under pressure to pay the debt, Bhatia added.
