Samsung Galaxy J7 and Galaxy J5 Launched In India

It was just a few weeks back that we updated you about Samsung's new lineup of budget smartphones, which include the Galaxy J7 Prime and the Galaxy J5 Prime. The devices were first launched in Vietnam on September 1, 2016. At that point, it was stated that Galaxy J7 Prime and J5 Prime will have the initial sale in Vietnam only. Their release in other countries was not talked about.

However, the latest buzz states that Samsung has launched the two devices in Indian market. The launch happened on September 19, 2016.

South Korean consumer electronics giant Samsung launched two mid-range smartphones -- Galaxy J7 Prime and J5 Prime -- in India on 19 September. It is to note that both the devices are the modified versions of the previously released Galaxy J7 and J5 2016 models. Of the two, Galaxy J7 Prime is the superior model with high-end specifications. The J5 on the other hand is a watered down version of it.

Let us have a look at each of the devices to find out what features the smartphones come with.

Galaxy J7 Prime

As the name suggests and explained earlier, the device is the advanced version of the South Korean tech giant's former release Galaxy J7 2016. The all new Galaxy J7 Prime features a metal covering on its rear panel and has a remarkable 5.5-inch full super AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 2.5D shield and Pixel density: 401 ppi (Pixels Per Inch). The front of the device also houses a fingerprint sensor.

It is clocked at 1.6GHz Samsung Exynos 7870 octa-core CPU, runs 6.0.1 Marshmallow and for storage it has 3GB RAM with an internal storage of 32GB which is expandable up to 256GB. Galaxy J7 Prime has 13MP main camera with LED flash f/1.9 aperture, full HD video recording and CMOS sensor; for selfies it has 8MP front camera with f/1.9 aperture, CMOS sensor.

With a battery of 3,300mAh, it supports 4G-LTE with VoLTE. The additional features include dual-SIM slots, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth v4.1, GLONASS, A-GPS, S Power planning mode (preserve battery for calls, extend battery time and forward calls), S secure with folder lock option, S bike mode, ultra data saving mode. The smartphone measures 151.5 x 74.9 x 8.1mm, and is available in the color choices of Black and Gold. It is available for a price of Rs. 18,790.

Galaxy J5 Prime

The slightly toned down model - Galaxy J5 Prime is decked with metal frame boasting of 5.0-inch HD (720x1280p) display with Corning Gorilla Glass supported by 294 ppi. This new handset from Samsung measures 142.8 x 69.5 x 8.1mm in dimension. It is outfitted with 1.4GHz quad-core CPU and runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Furthermore, Galaxy J5 Prime comes with 2GB Ram and a 16GB internal memory that can be expanded up to 256GB.

The Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime additional features include Fingerprint sensor, dual-SIM slots, Bluetooth v4.1, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), GLONASS, A-GPS, S Power planning mode (reserve battery for calls, extended battery time and forward calls when no battery), S secure with folder lock option, S bike mode, ultra data saving mode. With a battery of 2,400mAH, it also supports 4G-LTE with VoLTE.

It has 13MP main camera with LED flash f/1.9 aperture, CMOS sensor, and full HD video recording and 5MP camera with f/2.2 aperture, as well as CMOS sensor. Available in color choices of black and gold, it costs Rs. 14,790.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime is currently available for purchase in stores and ecommerce sites. But sources say that the smaller model, Galaxy J5 Prime will get released by September end. As mid-range devices, the two Galaxy smartphones are to compete with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Gionee S6s, Oppo F1s, LeEco Le 2, Moto G4 Plus, and Lenovo K5 Note.
