Won't back free downloading, but it helps: Blasterjaxx's Jongkind

Lonavla, Dec 19 (IANS) Dutch DJ and proucer Thom Jongkind, one half of the famous electro house duo Blasterjaxx, says though he does not support free music downloading, he believes that it does help their work reach out to a wider audience.

"I am not a supporter of free downloading, but it helps all of us to reach out to the global audience. There is no point of cribbing on why the sales of physical copies of our music are going down," Jongkind, who was here for the Absolut Enchanted Valley Carnival (EVC) gala, told IANS.

"Live streaming is in, and digital release of a song reaches faster. So, it would be wiser of us to accept that upgrade and move on," he added.

As it was the debut performance of Blasterjaxx at EVC, sharing his experience, Jongkind said: "I am very happy to be back in India and to perform at the Enchanted Valley Carnival for the first time. As musicians and performers, we are doing live gigs everywhere, but it is the vibes of the audience that makes it different. Here, people are so energetic and enthusiastic about music, I am loving it."

The DJ duo -- Jongkind and Idir Makhlaf -- started their musical voyage from 2010 and released their first EP titled "Reborn EP" in 2012, followed by "Koala EP" and many singles like "Faith", "Legend Comes to Life", "Big Bird" among others. They also collaborated with various artistes like David Guetta, Hardwell, Afrojack, Nicky Romero, Quintino Ibranovski and others.

Jongkind, who does not listen much to Indian music, believes musicians should evolve with time without losing the core interest of genres.

"No matter what, as an artiste one has to keep evolving and imbibe. Having said that, while following the world trend, you cannot completely ignore a genre. For instance, deep house is a trend now, which does not mean big room house is not cool," he said.

In the new year, Blasterjaxx is coming up with their new single called "No Sleep".
