OnePlus 3T: New Specifications and Review of the 'Killer' Replacement

New Delhi, Fri, 16 Dec 2016 NI Wire

OnePlus has done it yet again - a launch to win the market in style. The Chinese phone manufacturing company has launched the mid-cycle replacement of the OnePlus 3 model that was unveiled only about six months ago. The model OnePlus 3T is an improved version of its predecessor and promises to live up to the expectations of the Smartphone lovers.

The blockbuster phone makers set a great standard with the OnePlus1 and somehow could not fulfil the hopes of the users when the second model OnePlus 2 came to the market. Although OnePlus 3 went on to cover the undone, the upgradation in form of a new model got rolled out two days back and created the required sensation. The launch was particularly good for the survival of the brand amidst the hyper-dynamism in the Smartphone market, as well as, in between the thrill created by the introduction of Google Pixel.

The Built: In terms of the outer look, there is not much of a difference between the replaced version and the previous flagship model except the Gunmetal Grey finish which has replaced the Graphite shade in the earlier model. The phone is available in the new Gunmetal and the retained Soft Gold tints. Also, the standard chrome finish on the crown of the rear camera has been made slightly darker.

The Display: The screen of 5.5-inch optic AMOLED Full HD (401ppi pixel) and Corning Gorilla Glass protection is similar to that of OnePlus3, but the display of the former is certainly brighter when placed aside the latter. The Colour Temperature slider when on the Warm side used to give an ‘off’ effect in the previous model, which has got much improved in this version of the phone.

The Snapper: The new 16-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture and fixed focus is the major draw of the phone. There is a sapphire-coated glass to protect the 16-megapixel camera with LED flash (same as the previous one) on the back. There is a tweak of EIS or Electronic Image Stabilisation that enables a superior video recording.

The Performance: The use of 2.35 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor 821 (instead of 820) chipset is what makes the device stand apart. With the help of this power consumption and processing power tends to get about 10 times more faster giving a never before user experience. A new variant with 128 GB inbuilt storage along with the 64 GB and LPDDR4 RAM of 6 GB, which is great given that there is no expandable memory. The battery of the phone has also beefed up to 3400 mAh making it more capable of lasting longer.

The Software: Another feature that makes this new device different from its predecessor, it operates on Oxygen OS 3.5.3 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It should be noted that the Oxygen OS 3.5.4 update has started being offered to the users of OnePlus 3T. On Thursday, the company’s team in one of its forum posts announced, “The OTA will reach a small percentage of users today, and we'll begin a broader rollout in a few days".

The New Tweak: Reportedly the update removes the battery saving lags when the charge reaches below 5 percent, brings improved US-TMO Network, an optimised connectivity of Bluetooth for Mazda cars, increased system stability, flashlight issue added with many bug fixes for a wonderful user experience. Moreover, the Android Nougat 7.0 upgrade is also released for OnePlus 3 devices for optimised use.

The Conclusion: OnePlus 3T is which is priced at Rs. 34,999 (for 128 GB variant) and 29,999 for (64 GB variant) is definitely a gadget to look out for. Encompassing a swifter and better SoC, a front snapper of higher resolution, a more powerful battery, and increased space of inbuilt storage, the phone is worth swooning over.

The Chinese Manufacturers, who proved themselves to be a dominant player on the basis of phones packed with best of the features in half the price of its counterparts, have relived to their image with this launch. The refreshing unpredictable replacement released, would keep the senses satiated, at least till the arrival of OnePlus 4 in the markets.
