New Delhi, Dec 8 (IANS) Metro services on Blue Line, connecting Delhi's Dwarka to Vaishali and Noida areas of Uttar Pradesh, were briefly affected on Thursday after smoke was noticed coming out of a carriage and its passengers evacuated, said officials.

The incident took place at Patel Nagar metro station in west Delhi at 4 p.m. when some passengers on the platform noticed smoke billowing out of a coach of the Dwarka-Vaishali train.

"The smoke was reported in the last coach of the train (sixth coach) by passengers at Patel Nagar station," said a Delhi Metro statement.

"As a precaution, the coach was evacuated and all passengers were deboarded at Rajendra Place Metro station. The train was thereafter withdrawn from service and sent for investigation," it added.

According to fire officials, four fire tenders were rushed to the spot after the incident was reported.

According to Metro officials, the disruption in service was limited to the time taken to evacuate the train and remove it from the line.
