HPE, Intel to offer computing as service

Karnataka,National,Technology,Business/Economy, Thu, 27 Oct 2016 IANS

Bengaluru, Oct 27 (IANS) IT major Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and chip-maker Intel have jointly set up a centre of excellence in this tech hub to provide computing as a service to research institutions and academia.

"The centre will enable research institutions and academia to test their applications on our high performance computing platform as a service with Intel technologies for early adoption," said HPE India Director Vikram K on Thursday.

Customers can access the platform even remotely through a cloud-driven model, which can be replicated in their data centres.

Indian research institutions and academia use high performance computing for big data analytics and simulations of complex processes and in large projects.

"High performance computing will play a major role in the government's proposed National Supercomputing Mission, which will create a grid of 70 supercomputers, connecting academic and research institutions across the country for developing applications of national use," Vikram told reporters here on the occasion.

The HPE-Intel centre will also train new users and enable developers to hone their ability to leverage parallelism and vectorisation in Intel's central processing units.

"There is a need in research and academic institutions for computational power to process large volumes of data, solve complex mathematical problems and repeat calculations for multiplicative situations," asserted Vikram.

With Intel technology and HPE's systems and services, the centre will also allow customers to validate their applications and achieve optimised system performance and scale," added Intel Regional Manager Ravi Gupta.
