The Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly and President of Delhi Abhibhavk Mahasangh (DAM) Vijender Gupta punctured holes in the Delhi government’s draft amendments to the Delhi School Education Act and Rules, 1973. He called the entire exercise eyewash, as it would fail to bring out the desired results in stopping the private schools from charging exorbitant/unjustified fees.
Gupta said that he would write a letter to the Chief Minister and also raise the issue on the draft proposal in the coming assembly session for discussion. He hoped that the ruling party would allow a fair discussion on the matter and take the opposition in confidence. The issue of commercialization of education concerns lakhs of students and parents and should not be colored with a political brush.
Since a very long time the hapless parents in Delhi have been reeling under unbridled corruption of private schools that have been exacting excessive fees from them. The gross commercialization of education had been going on unchecked with the political patronage provided to the private school owners by the previous Congress government in Delhi.
Ashok Agarwal, Advocate and National President, All India Parents Association (AIPA) elaborated on the matter saying that as per the proposed amendments, a Committee will be constituted under the Chairmanship of the Additional Director of Education to examine the complaints received from the complainant about the fee structure of any school.
