18 May 2015, New Delhi: With FIH World League Semi-Final just around the corner and the training for the women team on full flow, Chief Coach Mathias Ahrens shared his take on the upcoming tournament, the team and their chances to book a place in the upcoming RIO Olympics 2016.

Speaking on the upcoming challenge Chief Coach Mathias Ahrens said “I am very confident of this team and our biggest challenge will be Belgium and it will be our first clash with them during the League. But I think we have a good chance against them and we will make it difficult for them”.

Speaking on the strengths of the team he added “The team as a unit play amazing hockey, it is really fantastic to see how we connect on the field and the girls have the ability to penetrate the defence of the opponents. While we attack to our strength but sometimes in the counter attack we have to organize ourselves a bit better which will help us score”.

Commenting on the chances to make it to RIO Olympics, Mathias said “The team is up for the challenge and we can always qualify. We will go to the tournament next month with all intent to qualify”

Talking on the team he said “The team is quite young and we have some experienced players. The tournament comes at the right time for the girls as they are keen to deliver. What impresses me about this team is their keenness to learn and apply”.

The FIH World League is slated to commence on 20th June 2015 and India would be clashing against Belgium in their opening match.
