Chief Minister Mr Arvind Kejriwal announced a compensation of Rs 50,000 per hectare (Rs 20,000 per acre) for farmer whose crops have been destroyed by the unseasonal rains and hailstorms in Delhi recently.
Kejriwal also announced a series of measures for the betterment of farmers in Delhi.
The Chief Minister made the announcements at a public meeting in the Mundka assembly constituency in presence of his cabinet colleagues and many MLAs.
Earlier, the CM conducted a field visit of many villages in Narela, Bawana and Mundka constituencies to take stock of the farmers condition.
Kejriwal said the Delhi government is committed to safeguard the interests of farmers in Delhi.
He explained that the compensation amount was agreed upon following the survey conducted by officials and objections by farmers if any about the extent of loss will be decided in the panchayat meetings where respective MLAs and concerned officials of the area will remain present.
The CM also announced the government’s plan to provide subsidy to farmers on the purchase of seeds and fertilizers. He said the development department is preparing its plan to implement this measure.
Mr Kejriwal said during his visit to the villages, farmers complained about not getting tubewell connections for irrigation of their fields. The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has been directed to clear the pending applications at the earliest.
