Strongly condemning the statement by BJP leader Shri Prabhat Jha that tomato was not a poor man's vegetable, but that of people with pink cheeks, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Arvinder Singh, MLA and chief spokesperson Shri Mukesh Sharma said that with this statement, not only the people of Delhi were being insulted, but it was like rubbing salt into the wounds by the BJP leader.
The Pradesh Congress has sought that Prabhat Jha should tender an unconditional apology to the people of Delhi. Shri Arvinder Singh said the Government has totally failed to control the prices of a common vegetable like tomato. He said under the protection of the BJP leaders, the hoarders were enjoying a good time in Delhi. He said tomato was such a vegetable that even if it was destroyed on the ground, it would naturally sprout from there.
Arvinder Singh said vegetables like "aloo, pyaj and tomato" were not only the food items consumed by the poor, but also by the middle class. He alleged that with BJP leader Prabhat Jha's statement, the BJP has justified the sky-rocketing price of tomattos, and by talking about "pink cheeks", he has also made fun of the healthy people of Delhi.
Mukesh Sharma warned that if Shri Prabhat Jha did not tender an unconditional apology to the people of Delhi, the Congress workers would be forced to start an agitation against him.
