Kejriwal is shedding crocodile tears for the teachers: Congress

New Delhi, Mon, 14 Jul 2014 NI Wire

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief spokesperson and senior leader Mukesh Sharma held Aam Aadmi Party leader and former chief minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal responsible for the unemployment of ten thousand guest teachers of the Government schools of Delhi. He alleged that during the 49-day rule of the Kejriwal Government, the foundation for the removal of these teachers had been laid. He said the Congress party has decided to hold a major agitation in support of the guest teachers, adding that Kejriwal was shedding crocodile tears for the teachers when he met them at Jantar Mantar.

He further said that it may be recalled that the unemployed guest teachers of the Government Schools of Delhi have been on a hunger strike for the past 21 days, and many teachers had to be admitted to hospitals due to their worsening health conditions. Shri Kejriwal had met the teachers at Jantar Mantar yesterday but had refused to participate in the teachers’ hunger strike.

Mukesh Sharma said besides the guest teachers, the AAP had betrayed over three lakh contract workers. He said during the Congress rule, they were paid their wages according to laid down rules. Shri Sharma said the AAP leaders had made tall promises to these workers before the Assembly elections, but when he became the Chief Minister of Delhi, Kejirwal and his party took no step to regularize their services.

He recalled that Shri Kejriwal had stopped the “Janta Durbar” after just one day at the Delhi Secretariat, fearing that these employees would create some complications for the Government. He said the Congress Party had given extension to over 7000 jawans, and the party was also fighting for contract workers in other departments as well. He warned the Delhi Education Department that if the department did not take any prompt decision in the case of the guest teachers, the Congress would plunge into the teachers’ agitation.

Mukesh Sharma said the Pradesh Congress will constitute a high-level committee to fight for the interest of the contract employees and officials of the Government and semi-Government departments of Delhi, and the MCD. The party would also ensure that the Government does not render these employees jobless. He said due to the shortage of teachers, teaching has come to a standstill in all the Government schools in Delhi.
