The first meeting of North Delhi Muncipal Corporation has been scheduled for 28thApril, 2014 to elect Mayor and Deputy Mayor of North Delhi. According to provisions under Sub-Section (1) of Section 35 of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957, the Corporation shall at its first meeting in each year elect one of its members to be the Mayor and another member to be the Deputy Mayor of the Corporation.
The last date for filing the nominations for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor in the office of Municipal Secretary is 17th April, 2014 upto 5:00 p.m. Any candidate can withdraw his/her candidature at any time before the election is proceeded within the meeting.
This year the post of 'Mayor' is reserved for scheduled caste being 3rd year of the term. Besides, this election to the three members of Standing Committee would also be held as per same schedule.
These vacancies are created due to retirement of Mr. Prithvi Singh Rathore (Cong.); Ms Rekha Gupta (BJP) and Yogendra Chandolia (BJP).
