Singapore,Health/Medicine, Thu, 17 Apr 2014 IANS

Singapore, April 17 (IANS) Singapore authorities have put all hospitals in the country on alert for any cases of the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus ((MERS-CoV) after a case was confirmed in neighbouring Malaysia.

The health ministry statement said it is "closely monitoring this latest development and is in close contact with their Malaysian counterparts", the Straits Times reported Thursday.

It added that though Singapore has not seen any "MERS-CoV" yet, "given today's globalised travel patterns, the possibility of an imported case here cannot be ruled out".

Local hospitals are testing all patients with severe respiratory illness and who had been to the Middle East recently, the report said.
