Srinagar's Tulip Garden thrown open to visitors

Srinagar, April 5 (IANS) Spread over nearly 40 acres of land, Asia's largest Tulip Garden here was Saturday thrown open to visitors.

Kashmir's Divisional Commissioner, Shalindra Kumar threw open the garden to tourists and general public.

Officials of the local floriculture department that maintains the garden said they are expecting revenue of Rs.73 lakh this year through sale of entry tickets.

Situated on the foothills of the Zabarwan Mountain on the banks of the Dal Lake, the garden grows over 10 lakh varieties of tulips of various colours most of which are imported from Holland.

The garden will remain open for visitors till May 10.

A large number of locals and tourists were among the first visitors when the gates of the garden were thrown open.
