Too much alcohol per week ups stroke mortality in men

Washington, March 20 (ANI): A new study has revealed that consuming alcohol more frequently than twice a week increases the risk of stroke mortality in men.

According to the study, the effects of alcohol are not only limited to the amount consumed, but the frequency of drinking matters.

The study found that excessive consumption of alcohol is associated with a variety of different diseases and in people who are moderate consumers of alcohol, the risk of stroke is the lowest.

It was also revealed that the risk of cerebral hemorrhage increases linearly as the consumption of alcohol increases and in addition to alcohol and other significant risk factors for stroke include elevated blood pressure, coronary artery disease, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, diabetes, smoking, overweight, asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis, and elevated cholesterol levels.

The study was published in Acta Neurologica Scandinavica. (ANI)
