Singapore rated 'most expensive' city in world

Sydney, Mar. 05 (ANI): Singapore is the most expensive city in the world, according to the Worldwide Cost of Living Index.

The ratings, compiled by The Economist's intelligence unit, pointed that Singapore took the crown, due largely to the soaring cost of cars and utilities as well as a strong currency.

The bi-annual index tracks the price of a virtual basket of goods and services in 131 cities around the world and some of the basic prices compared in each of the cities is the cost of one kilogram of bread, a bottle of wine and a litre of unleaded petrol.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, in Singapore it currently costs an average of 1.73 dollars for a litre of unleaded petrol, compared to 0.69 dollars a decade ago.

After Singapore, Paris, Oslo, Zurich and Sydney take up the top ranks for being most expensive cities in the world.

The top ten most expensive cities in the world are:

1. Singapore

2. Paris

3. Oslo

4. Zurich

5. Sydney

6. Caracas

7. Geneva

8. Melbourne

9. Tokyo
