Bangkok, March 5 (IANS) A court in Thailand Wednesday approved an arrest warrant for anti-government protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban on charges of murder and attempted murder for ordering the crackdown on Red Shirt protesters in April-May 2010, when he was the country's deputy prime minister.

Suthep, who was director of the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) in 2010, has been summoned by a criminal court to report to the prosecutors, the Bangkok Post reported.

The other defendant in this case is former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, who has already been indicted on the same charges.

The court has approved three arrest warrants against Suthep.

The first is for alleged rebellion, the second for violating the emergency decree in leading the People's Democratic Reform Committee's ongoing protests and the third for the crackdown on Red Shirts in 2010, the report said.
