Puri (Odisha), Jan.4 (ANI): Sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik has made a sculpture in honour of comatose seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher in Purui, Odisha, on his 45th birthday.

Schumacher was still in a coma on his birthday on Friday after suffering head injuries while skiing off-piste during a family vacation in the Alpine resort of Meribel on December 29.

Patnaik said that he had followed the champion over the years and through his art, he would pray for his speedy recovery.

"Michael Schumacher met with an accident and is in hospital right now. That is why we have created a sand sculpture to pray for his speedy recovery. Today (January 03) is his birthday as well, so we are wishing him on this day," said Patnaik.

Britisher Julia, praised Patnaik's effort.

"It's very impressive; I mean to create something out of sand that's so delicate and intricate. You can see the man in the face, and the story behind it. The man is in coma. The artist has decided to try and give good wishes to the man and hope for his recovery," she said. (ANI)
