Arun Jaitley defends Modi, no leader has undergone so much 'scrutiny'

New Delhi , Fri, 03 Jan 2014 ANI

New Delhi, Jan. 3 (ANI): Commenting on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's remarks on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, BJP leader Arun Jaitley Friday said that there is no other political leader in India who has undergone so much scrutiny as Modi.

"There is no other political leader in India who has undergone so much scrutiny as Mr. Modi. Dr. Singh was a little bitter towards the media and towards us especially towards Narendra Modi," said Jaitley.

"It was PM's farewell press interaction; it was time for introspection and not for bitterness, Also, PM's comments on Modi do not suit the stature of a Prime Minister," he said.

"Rest of the PM's press conference was a big farce. He admits his government failed to curb corruption, inflation, Corruption, inflation and unemployment is a perfect recipe for disaster, but he was still trying to prove that he governed well," he added.

He further added that Dr. Singh's kindness towards the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was increasing his suspicion as to what was going on between the two parties

BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said Dr. Singh should look at his own 'disgraceful performance' rather than calling Modi 'disastrous'.

"What he said is very unfortunate and regrettable. His performance in the last ten years has been disgraceful to say the least in terms of corruption, price rise and development. Today he has nothing better to say," said Ravi Shankar Prasad.

"If he has called Modi disastrous for the country he should look inwards at what disaster legacy he is leaving for India," said Prasad.

In his third ever address to the media during his 10 years as Prime Minister, Dr. Singh said that if BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi ever becomes the PM, it would be a disaster for the country.

At the same time, he also indicated that he was not in the running for a third term as Prime Minister, but did not comment on whether Rahul Gandhi would be the prime ministerial candidate for the Congress or not.

He also said that he had promoted good governance and that he hoped history would be kind to him on his term a as prime minister of the country. (ANI)
