Dikshit concedes defeat to Kejriwal

New Delhi , Sun, 08 Dec 2013 ANI

New Delhi, Dec.8 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday conceded defeat to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal in the state polls.

Kejriwal dedicated his victory to the people of New Delhi constituency.

"Friends, it is not my victory. It is the victory of the people of New Delhi assembly constituency. I firmly believe that the country shall win, people shall win, democracy shall win and India shall win,"Kejriwal said at his party office in New Delhi.

The AAP is likely to emerge as the second largest party in the 70-member Delhi assembly.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has retained the central states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh while it has wrested the northwest state of Rajasthan from the federal ruling Congress Party. It is likely to emerge as the single largest party in Delhi.

BJP senior leader Nitin Gadkari said that the people had no faith in the leadership of Congress Party chief, Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi, while voters accepted the leadership of BJP prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi.

"People have no faith in the leadership of Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. At the same time, one proven fact is that people have faith in the leadership of Narendra Modi and we have already contested these elections on the leadership of Narendra Modi. So this is very clear thing for Narendra Modi that the country by and large accepts the leadership of Narendra Modi," Gadkari said.

The Election Commission has announced the election results of four states barring the northeast state of Mizoram, which will be declared on Monday (December 09).

Congress, led by the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty that has ruled India for most of the 66 years since independence, is facing widespread anger at the issues of corruption and high inflation after two successive terms at the head of a national coalition. (ANI)
