Protest in Srinagar over demand for search for missing

Srinagar , Wed, 20 Nov 2013 ANI

Srinagar, Nov.20 (ANI): Kashmiris took to streets on Wednesday over a demand to search for people who disappeared and went missing from the state more than two decades ago.

Protesters gathered under the banner of 'Forum for Justice', wore headbands and held black posters.

They shouted anti-government slogans.

"This protest is to demand justice for the near and dear ones who are missing for the last 23 years. Since 23 years, there is no news about them," said Mehvish, a protester.

The Kashmir region has witnessed numerous militant attacks, insurgency and infiltration attempts from across the border in the last two decades.

Militants have been frequently attacking security bases in Kashmir since 1990s, when there was a full-blown insurgency against Indian rule in a region over which India and Pakistan fought two of their three wars.

The region is one of the world's most militarised zones, with India deploying more than 1.3 million troops to quell the rebellion that triggered off in 1989. (ANI)
