New York, May 8 (ANI): American basketball star Dennis Rodman has come to the aid of a Korean-American man jailed in North Korea.
Last week, Kenneth Bae, 44, was sentenced to 15 years of hard labour for committing "hostile acts" against the secretive and oppressive regime.
Now, the NBA Hall of Famer, one of the only Westerners to ever score face time with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, has requested Bae's release through a tweet, reports New York Daily News.
Rodman might have more influence than any other American. In February, Rodman took in a basketball game with Kim and enjoyed a long dinner with the dictator.
Rodman returned from the journey describing Kim, who is in his late 20s, as a "friend for life".
It is unclear why Bae was arrested in early November in a region of North Korea bordering Russia and China.
Bae's friends have said he was a devout Christian who led tours in China and often traveled to North Korea to feed orphans. (ANI)
