Justin Bieber wants 'seized pet monkey put in zoo'

London, April 24 (ANI): Justin Bieber has apparently contacted German customs authorities and suggested that his pet monkey should be placed in a zoo.

The 17-week-old capuchin monkey - known as Mally - was seized in March by customs in Berlin, Germany, when the 'Baby' singer tried to sneak it into the country without the correct papers after landing in Munich while on tour.

Since then, Mally has been looked after by the Munich Animal Protection League (MAPL).

MAPL spokeswoman Judith Brettmeister said that she had received two emails claiming to be from Bieber's management company, Sky News reported.

The first email asked about how long Bieber had to produce the correct paperwork before Mally would be put to sleep, while the second suggested that the pet should be looked after in a zoo instead.

"Our team is looking into the idea of placing Mally at a zoo in Germany. Would you happen to have any recommendations for places that Mally would be safe and thrive?" it said.

"We are very concerned that Mally is safe and placed in the best possible residence," the email added.

Customs spokesman, Thomas Meister, said that Mally would stay in the MAPL shelter until the 19-year-old singer or his spokesperson get in touch with them directly.

Meister told the publication that if Bieber fails to provide Mally's paperwork by May 17th, the singer would lose ownership of the animal and it will become the property of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Meister added that if Bieber really does want to place the animal in a zoo, he is welcome to contact customs authorities and forfeit Mally at any time, but he will likely have to pay costs associated with keeping the monkey so far and a fine. (ANI)
