According to the Guinness world record official, Fortuna Burke, the hand-woven silk sheet needed to have a width of one metre and a length of more than 101 meter to break the previous record set in Indonesia in 2010.

"I am very pleased to announce that Dr Abhijit Baruah has achieved a new Guinness world record for the longest hand woven silk sheet. He has beaten the previous record of 101 meters at the moment. We are still measuring it. It is coming 190 meters and it should be around 1000 meters," said Burke.

However, Baruah, the man behind the initiative dedicated the record to the nation.

"I am very happy because I created a new Guinness world record. I broke the previous record and this win is my gift to the nation. I will be working for Assam and India like this and this is my aim," said Baruah.
