Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 2 (ANI): The Kerala Assembly was on Tuesday adjourned after an uproar over the resignation of Forest Minister KB Ganesh Kumar whose wife had accused him of physically abusing her, as well as having an extra-marital affair.
The forty-six year old film star-turned-politician handed in his resignation to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy late last night.
According to Television reports, the opposition in the assembly have reportedly accused the Chief Minister of misleading the House on the issue.
Ganesh Kumar has submitted his resignation to Chandy late last night at his official residence here after his wife, Yamini Thankachy, alleged that her husband had physically abused and tortured her for 14 years.
Based on a complaint by his wife, the police registered a case against Ganesh Kumar.
Thankachy has also alleged that she had complained about the alleged domestic violence to the Chief Minister and several other ministers, but that they had done nothing.
"I have been cheated. I waited after being asked to do so by the Chief Minister. I have been beaten for the past 14 years. Ganesh Kumar has been in an illicit relationship," she had said.
Reacting to Thankachi's allegations, Chandy said that it was true that she met him and he had assured her of intervention to solve the dispute.
"She had not given me any written complaint and I did my best to intervene to solve their issues and in the first round, I succeeded. The agreement was made out but it failed in the implementation part. I feel she is being prompted by some external forces," he said. (ANI)
