New Delhi, Mar. 28 (ANI): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on Thursday said the entire world is now praising Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for his good governance model in the state.
Prasad, who was reacting to the meeting between a high-profile American delegation, comprising parliamentarians and businessmen, and Modi, said it is only a confirmation in a series of developments from the European Union and the Government of Britain who have acknowledged the extraordinary development and all-round progress of the state of Gujarat under the latter's dynamic leadership.
"Today if senior members of the American Congress and business leaders from the US have met Narendra Modi, warmly praised his record of governance and development in Gujarat; it is only a confirmation in a series of developments from the European Union and the Government of Britain who have acknowledged the extraordinary development and all-round progress of the state of Gujarat under the dynamic leadership of Narendra Modi," said Prasad.
"Your work will speak for you and that's what Narendra Modi has established giving a string rebuff to all the campaign of canard against him by certain vested interest for the last so many years. Ultimately the quality of your work and the record of your leadership triumphs. I am sure the inclusive, the all encompassing development, which the BJP Government in Gujarat under Narendra Modi has established over the years would become a good benchmark of growth with equity all around the world which is being appreciated and warmly applauded," he added.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari, however, played down the meeting between the Modi and the US delegation.
Modi, who met a high-powered delegation of members of USA House of Representatives and business leaders here on Thursday, spoke about the fast, inclusive and environment-friendly process of development in Gujarat and stated that people's participation is the key to the state's development model.
Welcoming the USA delegation in the land of Mahatma Gandhi, Modi stated: "With hard work we have been able to create an impact in the country."
Modi also called for the strengthening of democratic processes keeping in mind the larger good of the people.
"Mahatma Gandhi has been and is the biggest lighthouse in this journey. Gujarat, being the land of Mahatma Gandhi believes in these principles and has been at the forefront of nurturing such ideals and leading its people on the path of growth," he opined.
Modi said that USA is the oldest democracy in the world and India the largest and that both nations should remain committed to these principles.
"Our democratic ideals flow from ideals of humanity and in today's world, the challenges before us compel us to work together even more seriously to strengthen democratic principles," he affirmed.
During his interaction with the visiting US Congress delegates, Modi also spoke about the need for humanitarian forces coming together in a time when other forces challenging safety and security of mankind are very active. He declared that the humanitarian forces must come together and fight terrorism along with other challenges of poverty and unemployment.
Modi further mentioned how Gujaratis have become a global community receiving love and affection from across the world. He wished the visiting American delegation a fruitful stay in India and thanked them for this wonderful beginning.
The visiting delegation included Representative Aaron Schock (a Republican Congressman from Illinois), Representative Cynthia Lummis (a Republican Congresswoman representing Wyoming), and Representative Cathy M. Rodgers (Republican Congresswoman from Washington state). Representative Rodgers also serves as the Chair of the House Republican Conference.
The visiting American Congress representatives were impressed by the development journey of Gujarat with Representative Cathy M. Rodgers hailing the economic development and anti-corruption drive in Gujarat.
She stated that Modi has made a difference in the people's lives and looked forward to working together with Gujarat.
Representative Aaron Schock pointed that the people in USA are keen to work with Gujarat and that the people are impressed with how the state has facilitated investment.
He stated that there is enormous potential to work together with Gujarat.
It may be recalled that Representative Schock had congratulated Modi for leading the BJP to a record third time victory in the 2012 Gujarat Assembly Elections on the floor of the USA House of Representatives.
He had opined that Modi ran on the platform of economic prosperity for all and was elected by people cutting across every religion, education and class of society.
Representative Lummis said that people want to come to Gujarat due to the state's work culture that has been nurtured under the leadership of Shri Modi. She added that workers are valued here and is a desirable place to live due to Shri Modi's leadership qualities.
Modi had one-on-one meetings with the three Congress Representatives as well.
During the interaction, senior officials of the Gujarat Government also made presentations.
A K Sharma, Secretary to the Gujarat Chief Minister, gave a presentation on the investment opportunities in Gujarat, the DMIC and the Dholera SIR.
Chief Secretary Varesh Sinha, Additional Chief Secretary to the Gujarat Chief Minister K. Kailashnathan, Additional Principal Secretary to the Gujarat Chief Minister G C Murmu and Energy Secretary D J Pandian were present during the meeting.
The delegation is visiting India to promote 'People to People Contacts and Diplomacy' along with the Overseas Friends of BJP's (OFBJP) 'Global Community Over Reach Programme.' This is a joint initiative by USA based National Indian- American Public Policy Institute and India based Delhi Study Group. (ANI)
