Iran 'over a year away' from developing nuke weapon: Obama

Washington, Fri, 15 Mar 2013 ANI

Washington, Mar 15 (ANI): US President Barack Obama has said Iran is more than a year away from developing a nuclear weapon.

Obama, however, stressed that he did not want to 'cut it too close' and declined to rule out the possibility of military action.

During an interview with Channel 2, Obama said that his message to Israel remains the same that the issue can be resolved diplomatically.

He stressed that their goal is to make sure that Iran does not possess a nuclear weapon that could threaten Israel or could trigger an arms race in the region, the BBC reports.

According to the report, Iran's nuclear programme is expected to be high on the agenda when Obama visits Israel later this month.

Tehran insists it is refining uranium only for peaceful energy purposes.

But Israel has repeatedly threatened a military strike if Iran appears to be on the verge of obtaining a bomb. (ANI)
