Mumbai, Feb 13 (IANS) Britain's Prince Charles has invited Indian business magnate Mukesh Ambani to chair the Indian Advisory Council of the British Asian Trust, an official statement said Wednesday.

The Prince's announcement came along with the members of the British Asian Trust's (BAT) new in-country advisory councils in Windsor Castle Monday to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the trust.

The advisory councils will provide the British Asian Trust with further in-country insight and assist with their rigorous selection of future projects.

"I am greatly honoured by ths appointment and to be actively involved in realising the vision of the Prince of Wales. It is a privilege to be working with an organisation that understands the importance of genuine impact and sustainability.

"I am confident that the work we will undertake together will make a lasting and a big difference," said Mukesh Ambani, managing director and chairman of Reliance Industries.

Ambani will join dignitaries like Arif Naqvi, founder and CEO of Abraaj Capital and chair of the BAT's Pakistan Advisory Council, and Tom Singh, founder of New Look Fashion and chair of the BAT's UK Advisory Council.

Since its inception in 2007, the BAT - a charity founded by British-Asian business leaders at the suggestion of the Prince of Wales - has worked with South Asian NGOs to touch the lives of one million disadvantaged in different ways.

BAT tackles issues pertaining to mental health, child abuse and providing business qualifications for illiterate rural women.
