London, Jan 26(ANI): Swiss ace Roger Federer, who is renown for his sportsmanship, unusually lost his cool and used the F-word for opponent Andy Murray during his defeat in the Australian Open semifinal.
TV broadcasters, BBC were forced to apologize on air for language of tennis great famed for sporting behaviour as the Brit sets up final clash with Novak Djokovic in the final, the Daily Mirror reports.
US Open champion Murray came through a five-set thriller to face Djokovic in Sunday's final.
But, after the Scot hit a forehand winner while serving for the fourth set, Federer approached the net and shouted: "F****** stop it!"
Murray smirked in response to the sledging, but then dropped his serve and lost the tiebreak, the paper said.
The British No.1 gained revenge by narrowly missing Federer with a body shot in the second game of the final set, and then by going on to win his first Grand Slam match against the winner of 17 Major titles.
Murray tried to play down the bad feeling and claimed he wasn't that surprised because stuff like that happens daily in tennis matches.
Murray added it was very, very mild in comparison to what happens in other sports, and added there are no hard feelings.
Federer claimed he and Murray just looked at each other one time and his reaction was just ok in a three and a half hour long match.
Federer, who has played in 10 consecutive Grand Slam finals between 2005-07 but has now made only two in the last 12, admitted Murray was the better player in the match and he won the match fair and square. (ANI)
