Lalu advocates death penalty for six Delhi rape accused
Kolkata, Jan 19 (ANI): Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav has advocated death penalty for the six under trials accused in the brutal Delhi gang rape.
While speaking to mediapersons during women empowerment event in Kolkata on Friday evening, Yadav said those who committed the barbaric gang rape in Delhi be hanged to death.
"Such criminals should be awarded death by hanging. And when the parliament gets back in session I have already said that we will press for a law so that people don't commit the crime because of the severe punishment," said Yadav.
Meanwhile, Yadav also appealed political outfits not to provide election tickets to aspiring politicians who face charges of crimes against women.
"Firstly such people should not get tickets from political parties, and till the time the judiciary does not punish the accused should be boycotted and harassed in normal life," said Yadav.
A court in Delhi transferred the gang rape case to a fast track court for day-to-day hearing, a month after the gruesome gang rape of 23-year-old paramedical student in a moving bus.
Five of the six accused are being charged with murder and the court, which is listening to their pre-trial hearings, has ordered that now the trial will take place in the fast track court.
The hearing of the December 16 gang rape and murder case of a 23-year-old medical student will be held in a fast track court from January 21 and it will be on a day-to-day basis. (ANI)
