Azarenka, Murray and Federer enter Australian Open second round

Melbourne, Jan 15(ANI): Brit number one Andy Murray, Swiss ace Roger Federer and women top ranked player Victoria Azarenka have all entered the second round of the Australian Open with straight sets win in the opening round.

World number three Murray began his Australian Open crusade with a quick straight-sets win over Robin Haase in Melbourne.

The British number one eased to a 6-3 6-1 6-3 victory in just one hour and 37 minutes.

Two early breaks of serve set the tone and the world number three was rarely troubled on his way to setting up a second-round tie with Joao Sousa of Portugal.

Meanwhile, Federer opened the campaign for his 18th Grand Slam title by beating Benoit Paire 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 in the first round of the Australian Open on Tuesday.

The Swiss star landed in the same half of the draw as Murray, meaning they could potentially meet in the semifinals.

Federer could face a final against top-ranked Novak Djokovic, who is aiming for a third consecutive Australian Open title

However, it wasn't that easy for world number one Azarenka, who survived a minor scare in the second set, to win her first round match 6-1 6-4 against Romanian Monica Niculescu. (ANI)
