Titabor, Jan 8 (ANI): Dressed in traditional attire, a total of 14,883 drummers, one of the biggest ensemble of the drummers, set a new record of playing the traditional Khol drum for a period of 15 minutes in Assam.

The feat was achieved on Sunday in Titabor town of Jorhat district, where a total of 14,883 Bayans (traditional percussionists) assembled with their Khols as they performed continuously for 15 minutes.

The event was organised by an outfit called, the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha, along with the support of other local organisations that brought together thousands of drummers from all over the state.

Talking about the event, the organizers lauded the effort of the drummers and added that would be felicitated.

"It was a record of the most number of people playing the Khol drum. It is a registered record with us, and it is the first such record in India. So far more than 11,000 drummers were here and we have asked for a list of participants in case there are more. We shall distribute certificates on this basis," said Ankita Thakur, an organiser.

The Khol is a terracotta drum specially played to the tune of devotional music among the people of the Hindu Vaishnava sect in the state.

Most of the Khol players were overwhelmed as they participated in the event to create a record.

"I would like to convey my regards to all the organizers who took the initiative to organise such a special occasion. And I am privileged to get the opportunity to be here. I personally feel that I am the happiest man in the world today," said Krishna Deka, a drummer participating in the event.

A large number of people had assembled to see the drummers create a record.

While the India Book of Records has officially recognized record, it is now being sent as an entry into the Asia Book of Records and the Guinness Book of Records as well. (ANI)
