Government to increase shortage of ICU bed and Ventilators: Dr. Walia

Delhi Health Minister, Dr. A K Walia today instructed the Department of Health to add more ICU bed in Delhi Government major hospitals in order to make available more beds for serious patients requiring special care and treatment. Dr. Walia has asked the Pr. Secretary, Health, Sh. Anshu Prakash to come out with a concrete proposal to add 10 ICU beds in major hospitals and provide 10 ventilators each in such hospitals.

The Minister further stated that the number of ICU beds does not suffice as number of serious patients knocking at the door of hospitals is going up. In addition to the patients coming from various parts of Delhi, the government hospitals have to cater the health needs of large number of patients coming from other states. Our hospitals are well equipped and advanced; hence, the hospitals are treating patients coming from the neighbouring and far flung cities.

Dr. Walia also stated that the Department has observed the shortage of ventilators in the hospitals causing delaying providing proper treatment and giving specialized treatment to the serious patients. Dr. Walia added that by making available 10-10 ventilators in major hospitals, the Health Department would be able to save valuable lives of critical patients and would also be able to serve the humanity. The addition of ICU beds and provision of ventilators is going to be effected in LNJP, GTB, Deendayal Upadhaya, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Sanjay Gandhi and Dr. Ambedkar Hospital.

Dr. Walia has underlined the importance of providing more attention on care to the patients admitted in the wards. Apart from providing due attention, it is also necessary to ensure proper sanitation and cleanliness.
