On 68th birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi, his wife Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra and her husband Robert Vadra, President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and many other politicians paid their homage at his Samadhi.
Other politicians included A K Antony, Meira Kumar, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, V Narayanswamy who paid floral tributes at Rajiv's samadhi.
Rajiv Ratna Gandhi was born on 20 August 1944 in Mumbai to Indira and Feroze Gandhi. He had a brother Sanjay Gandhi who died in a plane crash in 1980.
He became the 6th and the youngest P.M. of India when he took office after his mother's assassination on 31 October 1984.
He became a professional pilot for Indian Airlines. He never had interest in politics but after his mother's assassination in 1984, the Indian National Congress party leaders nominated him to be Prime Minister.
Rajiv Gandhi led the Congress to a major election victory in 1984.
He married to Sonia Gandhi in 1968.
Rajiv and Sonia have two children, Rahul Gandhi born in 1970 and Priyanka Gandhi in 1972.
Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated on 21 May 1991 in Tamil Nadu by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
