Assam Violence protest in Mumbai turns violent

The protest against violence in Assam and Myanmar against Muslims too turned violent in Mumbai creating chaos in the city. At least nine persons have been reported injured so far.

According to reports, several Muslim organisations at Mumbai's Azad Maidan were protesting the recent riots in Assam and alleged attacks on Muslims in Myanmar on Saturday, which suddenly turned violent.

Reports said the protesters set on fire several vehicles, including an OB (Outside Broadcast) van of three private news channels.

Nine persons including three media persons were injured in chaotic violence.

Police had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the violent crowd.

The situation is currently under control, said IG Law and Order, Mumbai.

Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil has appealed people to maintain peace.
