Although UPA presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee is all set to lead in the coming presidential elections, Congress is not ready to leave any stone unturned to assure his victory especially from its ally?s side. Telecom Minister and Congress leader Kabil Sibal meets West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC leader Mamta Banarjee in this regards.
Telecom Minister Kabil Sibal arrives Kolkata today in morning and went to state secretariat Writers' Buildings for talks with Banerjee. After the meeting, he refused to divulge the details, although it is assumed that he has convinced Mamta for her support for Pranab Mukherjee.
It is noted that the electoral arithmetic seems to be in favour of Mukherjee as all the major constituents of UPA are supporting him. Not only UPA alliance but even SP, JD (U), Shiv Sena, Bahujan Samaj Party, Communist Party of India-Marxist, All India Forward Bloc etc have also decided to support him.
TMC, which is the second largest constituent of the ruling UPA and it, can play a crucial role for his victory. However, the Trinamool Congress is yet to reveal its stand on the presidential poll after its preferred candidate, former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, declined to contest.
Congress is leaving no stone unturned in getting support from TMC so that it can send message as united UPA after the poll.
