New Delhi, Tue, 03 Jul 2012 NI Wire

The cloud over the validity of Pranab Mukherjee's nomination papers has been cleared after Tuesday evening when returning officer found it valid.

According to Pawan Kumar Bansal, the election agent of Pranab Mukherejee and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, "Pranab's nomination has been accepted. The resignation from the Indian Statistical Institute was valid."

Pranab's nomination file has been challenged by his rival P A Sangma who is backed by opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on the basis of holding the position of profit while filling nomination papers for the prez polls.

NDA and Sangma had alleged that Pranab had not resigned from the post of Chairman of Indian Statistical Institute while filling his nomination paper while Pranab in reply has said that he had resigned from the post on June 20.

The returning officer has also found P A Sangma's nomination paper valid and now there will straight fight between them.
