Ex Google executive Marissa Mayer named new CEO of Yahoo

Leading Internet firm Yahoo has declared ex Google executive Marissa Mayer as its new chief executive.

Mayer, 37, who had quit Google on the telephone yesterday and is likely to join work at Yahoo from tomorrow onwards.

According to The Telegraph, Mayer joined Google 13 years back as its first female engineer and her decision to move to Yahoo will be regarded as brave one due to the present condition of Yahoo!.

Owing to the previous records of Mayer at Google the shares in Yahoo climbed after the appointment was announced as investors took encouragement due to her appointment, the report said.

Mayer studied at California's Stanford University and has been given credit for the success of Gmail and Google News.

According to the paper, the major challenge that will be faced by the new Yahoo boss will be in defining the company's primary purpose and generating more and more revenues from the tens of millions of people who continue to make Yahoo's homepage one of the most visited on the web.
