Desperate auto lifter gang busted, three nabbed

South-East District police have exposed a gang indulged in auto lifting and chain snatching. Police have arrested gang leader Arif and his members. They were wanted in many cases of auto theft and chain snatching.

Ajay Kumar, Addl Commissioner of Police, South-East District said that in the recent past, incidents of auto-lifting and chain snatching by using a car in the area of South, South-East District and other adjoining areas were reported. A team was formed and it started to keep vigil on the movement of the said gang. Their efforts bore fruits secret information was received by AATS/SED on 05/07/2012. The same was further developed and the team zeroed in on a gang led by one Arif @ Md. Akram. The team succeeded in apprehending the gang leader Arif @ Mohd. Akram.

On questioning Arif disclosed that the Tata Safari in which they were travelling is a stolen vehicle, which they have lifted one month before from NOIDA, UP. On cursory search two gold chains (one from each) were also recovered from them.

He was arrested in 1995 in a murder case of PS Khurja City, Bulandsher and remained in jail for over 1 year. While in jail, he came in contact with Anil chauhan, the notorious Autolifter having more than 50 involvements.

They choose the timing when there is lesser traffic on the roads and victim is at a lonely place. After stealing the vehicle or snatching, Arif himself takes the responsibility of delivering the stolen vehicle and snatched chains.

The vehicles are delivered to Vipin who dismantle them to the extent of nuts and bolts at his premises in Chandaus, Distt. Aligarh, UP. Finally the dismantled vehicles and snatched articles are delivered to Usman for final disposal. Arif and Islam take 20 to 25 thousand rupees for every delivery of stolen vehicle with a share of 70/30 percent share respectively. Vipin dismantles the vehicle and takes 10000/- for the same. Usman in turn sells the dismantled parts separately at prefixed prices to scrap dealers in Meerut, UP.
