Advani needs change in selection process of ECs and CAG

Veteran BJP leader Lalkrishna Advani has demanded to introduce a new broad based collegium system for the appointment of Chief Election Commission (CEC) and Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). He had written a letter to the Prime Minister in this regard, however Congress had rejected the demand saying that it is nothing but an effort to diverts the mindset of people.
Advani wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh a letter in which he demanded to adopt a new system saying, "the present system whereby members to the Election Commission (EC) are appointed by the president, solely on the advice of the prime minister, does not evoke confidence among the people".
He has said in his letter that there is a rapidly growing opinion in the country, which holds that appointments to constitutional bodies such as EC should be done on a bipartisan basis. He had also suggested to adopt the same procedure for appointing the CAG also. He favored a collegium consisting of prime minister as the chairman, and chief justice of India, law and justice minister and leaders of opposition from both houses of parliament as its members.
It is noted that CEC S.Y. Qureshi's term ends is going to end on July 11 while CAG Vinod Rai's term ends next January.
Meanwhile Congress has rejected the same saying that there is nothing wrong in the selection process of both the posts like CEC and CAG. Party leader says that it is nothing but an effort of BJP leader to divert the people mindset from his earlier blogs.
