No consensus has been made over deciding the name of a candidate from National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the opposition alliance in which BJP, Akali Dal, Shiv Sena, Janta Dal (United) and other small parties are included in today meeting which was convened at BJP's senior leader Lal Krishna Advani (LK Advani) today at 11 a.m.
The meet, which concluded at 1:05 p.m. ended without reaching to any results as BJP's oldest allies Shiv Sena skipped the meet, protesting to the idea of supporting PA Sangma while Janta Dal (U) has already expressed that it would support to Pranab Mukherjee, the front runner candidature of Prez poll supported by ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA).
According to sources, LK Advani was keen to nominate a candidate from BJP for challenging the contestant of Pranab Mukherjee due to two possible factors.
First if due to under huge pressure, PA Sangma withdraw his name from the fray, it would be very critical situation for NDA as there would be no other option available against Pranab and he will win the contest extremely easy. There are very few chances that except Trinamool Congrees none is backing to former President APJ Abdul Kalam.
Second, if BJP did not promote any name for the prez poll fray, it will give wrong message to Indian political parties and to common man, as it lost the battle without fighting.
So, it is expected that BJP may promote the name of Ram Jeth Malani, a senior advocate and BJP member who has suggested his own name for this post.
In case, Sangma who is allegedly getting warning from his party chief to be sacked from the party, if contest for prez poll, withdraw his name from the fray, Ram Jeth Malani will work as a back up.
According to news, only Akali Dal is overall backing to BJP in this matter.
