New Delhi, Thu, 14 Jun 2012 NI Wire

Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis carried on a research on human body and found out that more than 10,000 species of germs live in or on the body of human.

This research has even found that healthy people can have thousands of variations of bacteria living on them. But these germs don't cause disease when a person is healthy, they simply coexist with other microbes in the body.

Though their sudden change in behavior that causes disease is still a mystery for researchers.

In this research bacteria living on the skin had the most diversification.

These bacteria are not passengers they are metabolically active. Human have to work out with them like they do with the ecosystem.

The research was carried on 242 healthy adults as a part of government's Human Microbiome Project.
