Google pays approx $18.7 million to acquire domains : .google, .youtube, .goog and .plus

Search giant Google has paid a heavy amount of $18.7 million to Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), to get the best domains in its lists. Google has shown its interest to acquire the top domains like .google, .youtube, .goog and .plus. In addition to that, it has also put application for domains like .fly, .new and .eat.

Google is also trying to get .doc and. live but will have to fight with Microsoft to acquire them. Moreover, the search giant is also in the race against Johnson & Johnson for .baby. the company is also competing with Amazon for 17 domains including .wow, .search, .shop, .drive, .free, .game, .mail, .map, .movie, .music, .play, .shop, .show, .spot, .store, .talk and .you.

The most number of applications received for the domain were 13 for .app. Amazon has applied for the domains .tunes, .got, .author, .smile, .song, .joy, .bot, .like and .call while tech giant Apple went for .apple.

ICANN is likely to approve hundreds of these domains, the first of which will most probably be in use by next year after proper evaluation and consideration of objections. The application fee has bee kept at $185,000 for a single domain.
