Haryana girl Shena Aggarwal tops the civil services examinations 2011-2012 conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The top two positions are bagged by women. It is second time in a row that the girls have topped this prestigious examination. Shena Aggarwal, a medical graduate from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) emerged the topper. She hails from Yamuna Nagar in Haryana. It was her third attempt for civil services.
The second rank is bagged by a girl also. Rukmani Riar, a Master of Arts (Social Entrepreneurship) from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai has grabbed second position. Prince Dhawan, a Master of Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi has achieved third position and he is toper among the boys.
In the top 25 positions, there are 19 males including one visually challenged candidate and 6 females.
4, 72,290 candidates had applied for this prestigious examination, out of which 2,43,003 appeared for the test. 11,984 candidates got qualified for the main written examination out of which 2,417 candidates were called for interview.
910 candidates -- 715 male and 195 female -- have been recommended for appointments to various central services like the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) and other positions.
Among the top 25 candidates there are candidates from states like Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Among the top 25 list there are candidates from premier educational institutions of the India.
