New Delhi, Wed, 30 May 2012 NI Wire

Delhi has broken all previous records in respect of the highest power peak demand today as it touched 5155 MW at 15.23 hrs. This was successfully met without any load shedding or diversion of power. All the distribution companies were geared up to meet the current peak demand of 5155 MW, which is highest peak ever in the history of Delhi. Sufficient arrangements have been made to meet the further increase in demand. It may be recalled that during the last summer, the peak demand was 5028 MW (August 2011).

It is further stated that there was no shortage in bulk supply and no noticeable load shedding was reported due to any shortage in supply. However, any load shedding occurred due to local fault was rectified within little minutes/shortest possible time.

While, making a statement in the Assembly, the Chief Minister, Smt. Sheila Dikshit reiterated the commitment of her Government to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the Capital City. She added that the DISCOMS have been specifically told to put in their best efforts to act swiftly on receipt of any complaint during summer. The CM appreciated the alertness of the field staff in averting any disruption in power supply despite the highest peak power demand.
